At SA Event Decor, every themed event begins with a simple question: How do we create an experience that completely immerses guests in the story?
When we were appointed by B Gorgeous Events & Catering to assist with the Disney Moana Premiere at Nu Metro, Clearwater Mall, we knew this project would demand far more than beautiful décor. Disney is renowned for its meticulous attention to detail, and every element had to work together to create an authentic tropical island atmosphere while respecting the creative direction of one of the world’s most recognised entertainment brands.
Every Detail Matters
Unlike many themed events where there is room for creative interpretation, this project required us to work within clearly defined creative boundaries. Every design decision had to complement the official Disney Moana theme.
This meant carefully selecting every decorative element, ensuring the styling remained true to the tropical South Pacific aesthetic without overpowering the official Disney branding or introducing elements that did not belong within the Moana world.
Even the flowers required careful consideration. Rather than simply using colourful tropical blooms, we worked within a strict floral palette to ensure every arrangement reflected the natural island environment Disney wanted guests to experience.
The result was a venue that felt authentic, immersive and instantly recognisable.
Custom Manufacturing
One of the most striking features of the installation was the handcrafted macramé table skirting used throughout the event.
Rather than sourcing a ready-made product, our workshop manufactured every metre specifically for this installation.
In total, over 15,000 metres of rope were used to create the intricate macramé detailing that dressed both the registration counters and the harvest tables. Every section was hand-crafted, creating texture and authenticity that simply cannot be achieved with mass-produced décor.
Although guests may only see the finished product, thousands of hours of preparation and craftsmanship went into producing these custom installations before the first item even arrived on site.
Creating an Island Experience
The installation combined a wide range of custom-built and natural elements, including:
- Custom bamboo bar stations
- Handcrafted macramé table skirting
- Live tropical palms and island planting
- Bespoke tropical floral arrangements
- Decorative lanterns and atmospheric lighting
- Natural rope detailing
- Tropical props and accessories
- Immersive registration and feature displays
Together, these elements transformed the venue into a vibrant island-inspired environment that welcomed guests into the world of Moana from the moment they arrived.
