For the G20 conference hosted at Emperors Palace, SA Event Decor was commissioned to create a conference environment that felt proudly South African, elegant and worthy of an international stage.

The brief was not simply to decorate a venue. The purpose was to create an atmosphere — a refined South African welcome for ministers, international delegates, government representatives and VIP guests.

The design used themed conference décor to tell a South African story through King Proteas, Strelitzias, Shweshwe fabrics, woven textures, handcrafted details and bespoke floral installations. Gold elements were introduced as a reference to Johannesburg, the City of Gold, connecting the event to its host city in a luxurious and meaningful way.

Every area formed part of the delegate journey. SA Event Decor styled the ministerial conference environment, registration and accreditation areas, welcome desks, cocktail and canapé spaces, VIP hospitality areas, lounge pockets, tea stations, floral focal points, food stations and branded G20 feature areas.

Three lunch events were also styled separately, with a different décor look created for each day. This allowed delegates to experience a fresh dining environment throughout the conference, while still keeping the overall event décor design consistent and elegant.

The result was more than conference styling. It was a complete event décor experience that combined protocol, hospitality, culture and luxury — creating a memorable South African setting for one of the world’s most important diplomatic gatherings.
