Modern Glam Gala at Sandton Convention Centre

For DIY DEPOT’s gala dinner, SA Event Decor transformed the Bill Gallagher Room at Sandton Convention Centre into an elegant evening setting defined by silver, candlelight, glass and contemporary styling.

The brief called for a gala environment that felt sophisticated and glamorous while remaining modern and inviting. SA Event Decor achieved this through a carefully layered combination of reflective textures, transparent furniture, candlelit centrepieces and refined table styling.

As evening falls, the ballroom takes on a dramatically different character. What appears bright and contemporary by day becomes a more intimate and atmospheric setting, with candlelight, shimmering silver textures and transparent furniture creating a sophisticated gala experience.

The tables are dressed in heavily sequined silver linens that capture every flicker of candlelight, creating a layer of movement and sparkle across the room. The clear acrylic chairs complement the reflective surfaces, their circular backs adding a distinctive contemporary detail without visually weighing down the space.

At the centre of each table, glass candle cylinders create the main focal point. Candles at varying heights surround compact arrangements of soft green florals, while mirrored and metallic elements reflect the warm glow throughout the tablescape. The result is intimate and elegant, with the candlelight bringing warmth to an otherwise highly reflective design.

The table setting continues the refined aesthetic with white folded napkins, polished cutlery, layered place settings and green-tinted glassware. The green accents provide a subtle contrast against the silver palette, adding freshness and preventing the design from feeling overly monochromatic.

Across the ballroom, additional dining tables extend toward the glass walls, creating a strong sense of continuity. The repeated combination of sequined linens, clear chairs, candlelit centrepieces and carefully arranged table settings gives the entire room a cohesive visual identity.

The floor-to-ceiling windows introduce the city beyond the venue, with illuminated buildings and exterior greenery becoming part of the evening backdrop. Reflections from the interior lighting and the cityscape add another layer of depth to the space.

The overall effect is glamorous, contemporary and atmospheric — a gala environment where metallic finishes provide the drama, candlelight supplies the warmth, and transparent furniture keeps the room feeling open and sophisticated.

The client for the event was DIY DEPOT, with SA Event Decor commissioned to create the décor and dining environment for the gala dinner.

Rather than simply adding decorative pieces to the venue, the design was approached as a complete visual experience. The furniture, tables, centrepieces, table settings and lighting elements were selected to work together and create a consistent atmosphere throughout the room.

The gala dinner took place in the Bill Gallagher Room at Sandton Convention Centre.

The venue’s expansive proportions and floor-to-ceiling windows provided an ideal backdrop for the design. The transparent furniture allowed the architecture and views beyond the ballroom to remain visible, while the reflective silver surfaces gave the large space a sense of glamour and movement.

The result was a setting that felt elegant without becoming visually heavy.
