African Boma Theme

Overview

African Boma Logo
For humans, few elements in an African night have as much appeal as an African Boma.  Normally a circular structure, enclosed with whatever the surrounding offers to keep out unwanted wild animals, a boma also traditionally houses a huge central bonfire, as much for cooking, as it is for light, warmth and safety.
If your function is to be held outdoors on a glorious African night, SA Event Décor will create the perfect boma setting, allowing you to escape to a wonderful African bush break night, no matter where the venue is situated.
The appeal and beauty of a boma setting is illustrated by its simplicity.   However, should you wish to make your African Boma more elegant and sophisticated, SA Event Décor will be happy to revise the décor for you entirely.  An African Boma can also be created indoors for you, with the omission of an actual fire

Main Function Area

In order to create that intimate, safe and hospitable place, where everyone gathers to refresh themselves, eat, drink, laugh and tell stories around their campfire, the designated area within the venue is enclosed with a 'fence' of cut branches, reeds and saplings, creating a warm, cosy circle.  If the venue has an outdoor lapa, this can be incorporated within the boma, not only integrating beautifully with the theme, but also providing wonderful functionality.

In the centre of this circular enclosure, a large fire pit holds a blazing fire, not only providing that unique quality of light which can only be obtained from flames, but also adding the magical and mysterious atmosphere of night in the African bush.  Bamboo lanterns may also be place at intervals, making the most of the rough, rustic enclosure.

Ensuring an authentic boma look, rectangular dining tables are positioned around the outer edges of the boma enclosure.  Tables are either dressed with informal ethnic cloths, or cloths made of animal print materials.  At each place setting, serviettes are simply placed in a wine glass, and an enamel mug enhances the authenticity of camp dining in a boma.  Lanterns provide soft points of light, placed at intervals along the tables.
Centre pieces add a touch of sophistication without breaking away from the rustic simplicity of the theme.  SA Event Décor has designed a uniquely beautiful centre piece for this African Boma theme.  Upon a round, woven grass mat, earthy African simplicity is depicted beautifully with an arrangement of a lantern, calabash, woven basket and twigs.

Camp style seating is provided with long benches or camping chairs, further enhancing this wonderfully effective scene.

Scattered around the boma, braziers containing artificial fires rest on tripods, palm trees add green foliage, and simple reed huts make your boma magnificently and uniquely African.  Large African style pots contain branches detailed with small, subtle LED lights, lending even more magical glow to this cosy area.

Table décor/Bar Area

This area, where guests gather to be served a drink to bid them welcome, can either be accommodated in a lapa, if the venue has this facility, or SA Event Décor will provide ethnic and rustic bar counters from which to serve drinks, both on arrival and throughout the evening.  The bar counters are authentically detailed so that they have a rough and rustic appeal, yet will be suitably lit, so that bartenders can serve correctly.

Kindly note that SA Event Décor will be only too happy to incorporate any ideas which the client visualises.
