American Diner 1950's Theme

Overview

Logo
Those were the days when the blues had just given rise to rock and roll.  Radio stations were in full swing in the latter part of the 50's, playing the new rock music, much of which was initially banned as being indecent. However, the teens recognised a good thing, and the tide of the growing fan base was unstoppable. Elvis was king. Stove-pipe tapered jeans with T-shirts and flared skirts over multi-layered starched petticoats were the only addition required to ensure that everyone was on their feet when the jukebox in the diner started playing.

This was the 1950's and the happening place was the American Diner. SA Event Décor will masterfully recreate those fun, funky times for your next party or function

Pre Drinks Area

The 1950's not only helped create a new youth culture, but teens broke away from the more staid, conservative colours of the war years, and bright neon colours were popularised for the first time. With this in mind, SA Event Décor places different coloured stretch cocktail tables, which are lit up with various coloured lights, in this welcoming area. This provides a beautifully subtle picture, and draws guests in. Tables are detailed suitably in theme. 1950's music backdrops add finishing touches.

Main Function Area

The entire venue is firstly draped in black, fire-retardant material. This provides an intimate look to the venue, and offsets large backdrops and serving stations to perfection. Backdrop scenes depict a typical diner, complete with black and white check floor and counter with stools, ice creams cones, jukeboxes, music notes and records.

Serving stations have been designed to depict the teens' best loved diner meals. Pink and white striped hot dog stands, and stands painted to resemble hamburgers, not only provide meal service, but also enhance the 50's diner's look and sense of fun.

As with the welcoming area, a assortment of table setting colours continues a lively, fun themed atmosphere.

Orange table cloths provide the base colour for about one third of the tables. Over this, black and white checked overlays break formality. Silver under plates add a touch of sparkle, and orange serviettes continue the base colour. A simple tall cylindrical vase holds brightly coloured glass pebbles, giving simple yet striking height to the table.
Black chair covers dress the chairs, and chair backs are detailed with orange sashes.

Pink cloths adorn the next third of the tables.  A striking display is created by the use of black LP records as under plates. Serviettes are not uniformly coloured, but a variety of colours is used.  Scrunched black organza in the centre of the table forms the base for the centre piece - a giant sized mock hamburger.
Chairs are covered in black, and are finished with sashes in assorted colours.

The third set of tables are dressed in pale blue base cloths, overlaid with black and white squares. Silver under plates designate each place setting, and pale blue serviettes are placed at each. A tall cylindrical vase containing red glass marbles, is topped up with red liquid, creating the memory of cherry cola.
Dark blue fabric covers the chairs, which are detailed with pale blue sashes.

These three table colour combinations, the added 1950's diner backdrops and props, all against the intimacy of a black draped venue, are guaranteed to work the 1950's right back to today. SA Event Décor is ready to "come to the party", and recreate this carefree, fun-filled scene for your enjoyment.
